Help for Cancer Patients & Their Loved Ones

For the past 17 years, Robin has helped numerous cancer patients and their loved ones deal and heal from this devastating diagnosis. She has counseled patients and their families, led workshops and participated on panels with some of the top oncologists in the country. Robin has served on the Board of the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund since 1995 and is also a member of the Advisory Board for the Woman to Woman Program of Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City. Robin currently participates on an OCRF Committee which reviews grant proposals for the establishment of national Woman to Woman programs where survivor volunteers help other women throughout the process of diagnosis and treatment.

The emotional and physical toll this disease can take on all aspects of the self and the familial, romantic, and interpersonal relationships of the patient can be devastating. Loved ones are also deeply affected, trying to manage their own feelings and lives, while being there for the patient. It can be overwhelming, scary and a daunting experience for all involved. Some of the issues Robin has helped people address are:

  • Anxiety & depression
  • Deciding about obtaining second opinions
  • Dealing with fears about illness and recurrence
  • Body image issues
  • Impact on relationships
  • Issues of sexuality and intimacy
  • Concerns about dating, and when to disclose health status if single
  • Issues of loss
  • Managing impact of chemotherapy
  • Fears about dying and end of life issues
  • Locating resources
When indicated, hypnosis can be used as an adjunct to regular supportive, educational and other psychotherapeutic techniques. CDs can be made for patients to use in the privacy of their own homes.
